This week has been amazing, I wasn’t sure how the course would be but it has been the best week I’ve had for a long time. Learning different things, meeting new people and more importantly being seen and heard and made to feel welcome not only by staff but also by other members of the group. This course has been the most fun I’ve had in ages! It really helped my confidence and I’ve really enjoyed getting to know everyone at the Gaydio team - they couldn’t be more lovely. I had no idea what to expect, which can be quite nerve-wracking, but was put at ease from the moment I arrived. Lee could not be more welcoming and supportive; a brilliant facilitator! He made everything we covered, (and we covered a lot!) accessible; happy to field questions and give further examples when needed. He opened up the World of Radio: things we'd never previously considered, giving a much greater appreciation for all that goes into making a station run smoothly and produce good content. Each session was interesting and engaging. I loved every second!

Lee and the Gaydio staff are a force to be reckoned with. They know their stuff and you truly believe you are in good hands with the knowledge you receive valuable and very informative delivered in a fun way that makes you take every bit in. If I could I would go on every course Gaydio holds. Definitely made me want to join and work in radio more. The week has been a great introduction to the world of radio. Gaydio’s values in being a community radio station for the UK’s LGBT citizens were woven fantastically into the content, whilst also providing a general overview of the industry. The atmosphere at the Gaydio Academy is absolutely positive and vibrant compared to anywhere I have been. It helps when everyone at Gaydio is friendly and evoking positive vibes, including the employees working at Gaydio. The course tutor, Lee, is friendly, patient and helpful. I learned more about creating C.V.s, which the job centre failed and didn't bother to teach me about over the years. Lee is gracious enough to give me feedback and tips on how to improve my C.V.

The Gaydio Academy differs from other skills courses as it’s also delivered by someone who actively works in Radio and not just the classroom. The course Lee delivered was an amazing confidence boost for me, I spent much of this year applying for anything and everything that paid enough for me to live on and felt blocked at every turn. However, I finally got lucky and saw a vacancy, got an interview and secured the job in the last 3 days. It works out perfectly for me to have actual time to volunteer at Gaydio in the future.
